
According to a statement from Devon & Cornwall Police, a 28-year-old white British male has been arrested at an address in the South Yorkshire area on suspicion of the murder of Ann Widdecombe.
Police said the suspect is now in police custody. Ann Widdecombe’s family have been informed of the arrest.
The arrest was carried out by South Yorkshire Police on behalf of Devon & Cornwall Police, with support from Counter Terrorism Policing North East.
Police have again stressed there is no information to suggest the incident is terrorism-related, and Devon & Cornwall Police continue to lead the investigation.
The investigation remains live and active. Police said no further information will be released tonight, with a further update expected on 12 July.
