Man Arrested After Alleged Threatening and Abusive Behaviour on Scaffolding

A man has been arrested following a welfare incident that prompted an emergency response in Plymouth city centre on Sunday evening.

Emergency services were called to Notte Street at around 8.25pm on Sunday, 9 August, following reports of concern for the welfare of a man who had climbed onto scaffolding.

Police, firefighters and ambulance crews attended the scene, working to bring the situation to a safe conclusion.

The man later came down from the scaffolding without further incident.

In an update issued following the incident, Devon & Cornwall Police said: “We were called at around 8.25pm on Sunday 9 August following a report of a concern for welfare for a man on top of scaffolding in Notte Street, Plymouth. Officers attended and the man came down.

“Before and after coming down he loudly used foul and abusive language towards officers and others.

“The local man in his 20s was arrested on suspicion of using threatening/abusive words or behaviour likely to cause harassment, alarm or distress.

“He remains in police custody at this time.”

The incident brought a significant emergency services presence to the area while crews ensured the man’s safety and managed the scene.

Police enquiries remain ongoing.
