Luke Pollard has been reappointed as Minister of State for Defence Readiness and Industry

22 July 2026

Luke Pollard has been reappointed as Minister of State for Defence Readiness and Industry continuing in the Government role he has held for the past two years.

The Plymouth Sutton and Devonport MP will remain responsible for work aimed at improving the UK’s defence readiness, supporting military procurement and helping to grow the country’s defence industry.

His reappointment comes as the Government has pledged to increase defence spending, with ministers saying the investment is intended to strengthen the nation’s armed forces and support the wider defence sector.

Commenting on his reappointment, Mr Pollard said: “My job for the past two years has been to boost the UK’s warfighting readiness, buy new kit for our forces and make defence an engine for growth. I’m grateful to the Prime Minister for reappointing me and allowing this work to accelerate with increased defence spending. I look forward to working with Wes Streeting to keep our nation and our allies safe in more dangerous times.”

Mr Pollard has represented Plymouth Sutton and Devonport since 2017 and will now continue in the ministerial role as the Government presses ahead with its defence priorities.
