Around 200 people took part in opposing demonstrations in Plymouth today as protesters marched from the Hoe into the city centre.
Around 100 people taking part in a march organised by Raise the Colours and supported by the South West Patriots Alliance gathered on Plymouth Hoe before setting off towards the city centre under a police escort.
The demonstration had been promoted around issues including women’s safety, illegal migration and what organisers described as “two tier policing”.
A counter protest attracted a similar number of people, with around 100 demonstrators gathering on Plymouth Hoe. Many of whom had their faces covered with masks.
Police kept the two groups separated, with the demonstrations taking different routes towards the city centre.
The two groups eventually reached the area around the Sundial on Armada Way, where they remained some distance apart with police between them.
There was loud chanting and shouting between the opposing groups, but the demonstrations appeared to remain largely peaceful.
Both groups were able to make their views heard as the demonstrations continued in the city centre.
