There is little time for rest after a Commonwealth Games silver medal, with a Plymouth judo star Max Gregory already back in competition and setting their sights on an even bigger prize
The Commonwealth silver medallist will return to action at a Grand Slam in Switzerland this weekend, before heading to another Grand Slam in Budapest, Hungary, just two weeks later.
The busy schedule comes as another major milestone has been confirmed, with selection for a first senior World Championships in Azerbaijan in early October.
And with the Commonwealth success behind them, attention is already turning towards the ultimate ambition qualifying for the Olympic Games.
The goal is to become the first British Olympic judo champion, but there is a long road ahead.
Olympic qualification in judo is notoriously difficult, with athletes needing to reach the world’s top 18 in their weight category. Ranking points are accumulated from their six best events, meaning competition schedules have to be carefully planned throughout the season.
That involves working closely with British Judo to select the right competitions while securing the support needed to compete internationally.
The Commonwealth silver has provided valuable momentum, but the next few months could prove crucial as the push towards Olympic qualification gathers pace.
The athlete also paid tribute to Plymouth-based NESC for its continued support during the journey.
