A man in his 30s has been arrested on suspicion of murder following the death of a man in West Hoe.

Police were called by the ambulance service at about 6.40am on Wednesday, 21 October, after concerns were raised about a man’s welfare.

He was found partly inside a wheeled bin in a service lane off Grand Parade. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The arrested man remains in police custody while enquiries continue. Formal identification of the victim has not yet been confirmed.

Detective Inspector Chris Lithgow said the investigation was at an early stage, with officers carrying out house to house and CCTV enquiries. A cordon remains in place while forensic examinations and searches are conducted, and road closures include Grand Parade and Garden Crescent.

Police said there would be increased activity in the area over the coming days to reassure the community. They have asked people not to speculate or share footage on social media, as this could upset the victim’s family and potentially jeopardise the investigation.

Anyone with information, images or footage can report it through the Major Incident Public Portal, by calling 101 or through the force website, quoting reference 50260282293.
