A murder investigation has been launched after a man was found seriously injured in a service lane off Grand Parade, West Hoe.

Police were called by the ambulance service at about 6.40am on Wednesday, 21 October, after concerns were raised about the man’s welfare. He was treated by paramedics but died at the scene.

Detectives are working to establish his identity and how he came to be injured.

A large red forensic tent has been erected in the service lane, where crime scene investigators dressed in white protective suits have been carrying out detailed examinations.

Photographs taken by Plymouth Post show forensic officers working around the tent as the investigation continues.

A police cordon remains in place, with road closures including Grand Parade and Garden Crescent.

Police expect to remain in the area throughout the day as officers review CCTV and make house to house enquiries.

Detective Inspector Chris Lithgow said the investigation was progressing at a significant pace. He appealed to anyone who was near Grand Parade or Garden Crescent between 6pm on Tuesday, 20 October, and 6.40am on Wednesday to contact police, particularly if they have CCTV, dashcam or doorbell footage.

Police have asked people not to speculate about the circumstances of the death while enquiries continue.
