A woman was bitten by a dog while trying to help a man who had collapsed on Mutley Plain, police have said.

Police said they were called at 11.10am on Wednesday, 14 October, after receiving a report that a woman had been injured by a dog.

The dog was with a man who had become unwell and collapsed in the street. The woman’s injury was not believed to be serious.

The man was treated at the scene by paramedics and taken to hospital to be checked over.

A man in his 30s from Plymouth was arrested on suspicion of being in charge of a dog dangerously out of control causing injury. He has been released on bail until December while enquiries continue.

An eye witness told the Post that “ at no point did the lady who was bitten approach the gentleman on the floor. It was an unprovoked attack with no warning”

Police said the dog had been seized and taken to kennels while the investigation is ongoing.
