A 13 year old boy has completed an extraordinary challenge by scaling Britain’s three highest peaks in just three days to raise money for Children’s Wishes Plymouth.
Ruben took on Snowdon in Wales, Scafell Pike in England and Ben Nevis in Scotland alongside his dad Joe Smith and a team of 12 people, raising more than £8,000 for the Plymouth charity along the way.
Ruben said: “It was honestly really hard doing three mountains in three days, but I wanted to do it to raise money for Children’s Wishes Plymouth and help kids who really need it.
“Snowdon was so windy and wet, Scafell Pike was really steep, and Ben Nevis felt like it went on forever.
“When I reached the top of Ben Nevis, I stood on top of the sundial, which made me the highest person in the UK at that moment.
“I was tired, soaked and relieved, but also really proud that I’d completed the challenge.”
His dad Joe said: “It was brilliant to take on this challenge alongside Ruben and a team of 12 amazing people, who all chipped in and made the experience what it was.
“My good friend Craig, who is a trustee at Children’s Wishes Plymouth, also did a great job setting up and organising the event.
“The charity does incredible work supporting vulnerable, underprivileged, disabled and terminally ill children across Plymouth and the surrounding area.
“We’ve raised over £8,000 so far, which is amazing, but we’re still looking for donations.
“Ruben has made me incredibly proud by taking on and completing such a difficult challenge at only 13 years old.”
Children’s Wishes Plymouth works to support children and families across Plymouth and the surrounding area, with the money raised through the challenge helping the charity continue its work.
