Rescue pictures show firefighters helping man from crashed car

Emergency services were called after a car left the road and entered a shallow leat opposite McDonald’s on Coypool Road in Plymouth this morning.

Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service said it was called by police at 9.50am and sent three fire appliances to the scene.

According to the fire service, the male driver and a male passenger “self-rescued from the vehicle out of the boot” before firefighters carried out medical assessments beside the waterway and assisted them up the bank into the care of waiting paramedics.

Photographs taken at the scene appear to show firefighters assisting one of the occupants through the rear of the vehicle before helping him from the waterway and up the embankment.

The car came to rest in shallow water and the circumstances surrounding how it left the road have not yet been confirmed.

Plymouth Post has contacted Devon and Cornwall Police and the South Western Ambulance Service for further information.
