Never Forgotten Five Years Since the Keyham Shootings

12 August 2026

Five years ago today, on 12 August 2021, a gunman opened fire in Keyham, killing five people before turning the weapon on himself

The tragedy left a wound on the community that has never fully closed, and today Plymouth pauses to remember those whose lives were taken. Maxine Davison, Stephen Washington, Kate Shepherd, Lee Martyn, and his daughter Sophie Martyn, just three years old.

Five years on, the pain has not disappeared. Families continue to live with an unimaginable loss, and many in the close knit Keyham community are still healing from the events that unfolded that day. As Plymouth reflects on the anniversary, thoughts remain with everyone affected. It is a day to remember those who were lost, to stand with those who continue to grieve, and to recognise the resilience and compassion that have helped the community move forward while ensuring the victims are never forgotten.
