A bomb disposal operation is underway on the River Tamar, near the Tamar Bridge.

Specialist Navy bomb disposal personnel are at the scene inspecting what is understood to be a suspected object underneath a boat.

The roads on the Plymouth side, under the Tamar Bridge, have been cordoned off while the operation takes place.

A police speedboat and a larger police vessel are also at the scene as the suspected object is examined.

At this stage, there is no confirmation of exactly what the object is or whether it poses any danger.
