A celebration of one of Britain’s most distinctive abstract artists is bringing colour and creativity to The Box Plymouth.
Gillian Ayres: A Life in Colour showcases more than seven decades of work from an artist renowned for her bold paintings, expressive brushstrokes and fearless use of colour.
Ayres, who died in 2018, built a remarkable career by following her own artistic path, creating large scale works inspired by movement, texture and the natural world around her.
The exhibition also explores her life beyond the canvas, including her groundbreaking role as the first woman to lead a fine art department at a British art school.
Visitors are invited to experience the energy and imagination of Ayres’ work, with paintings that celebrate colour, creativity and the freedom of abstract art.
