How Plymouth’s Armed Police Response Has Evolved

Thirty years ago today, these photographs captured armed police in St Budeaux during a 12-hour siege that gripped the city.

Looking at them now, the difference between 1996 and modern firearms policing is striking, the kit, the vehicles, the tactics, all worlds apart from what we’d see today. Some things never change though, the courage it took then, and still takes now.
