Plymouth Albion have opened their National 1 season in spectacular fashion, running in nine tries in a 61-17 victory away at Rosslyn Park.
Albion had struggled on previous visits to Priory Lane, but this time they took control almost immediately. Harry Wilkinson crossed twice inside the opening ten minutes before Ben Moa, Archie Hill and Noah Fenton helped send Ryan Lamb’s side into half-time with a commanding 35-5 lead.
There was no let-up after the break. Wilkinson completed his hat-trick, Moa added his second, while Sam Daly and Oscar Stewart also crossed as Albion passed the 60-point mark. Iwan Jenkins enjoyed an excellent afternoon from the tee, converting eight of Albion’s nine tries.
Jenkins said afterwards: “It is a great start to the season. Rosslyn Park are a top National 1 side and we just put 60 points on them.”
Head coach Ryan Lamb was equally pleased, saying: “It was an outstanding performance, particularly in that first 40 or 50 minutes. We dominated physically and we dominated field position as well and the boys were really, really clinical.”
Wilkinson was named Albion’s Man of the Match after his hat-trick, although Lamb also singled out James Kenny, Sam Daly and Jenkins for praise.
Albion now face another test on the road, travelling to Camborne on Saturday, September 12, for their second National 1 fixture. Kick-off is at 3pm.
