A suspected device beneath a boat on the River Tamar sparked a security operation near the Tamar Bridge.
A Royal Navy bomb disposal expert was called in to assess the object, with police boats in attendance and roads on the Plymouth side of the river cordoned off while the situation was investigated.

The highly trained specialist carefully inspected the object beneath the boat and very quickly resolved the situation, establishing that there was no immediate threat.
It has since been confirmed that the object was a gas canister and not an explosive device.

What initially appeared to be a potentially serious bomb scare was ultimately a false alarm, with the Royal Navy expert’s assessment bringing the incident to a swift conclusion.
