Rivalry runs deep, but it doesn’t have to end badly.
Fixtures between Plymouth Argyle and Exeter City have always carried an edge. Passion, noise, and at times, tension beyond the pitch. Saturday saw glimpses of that again, with emotions high and police keeping a close watch as crowds moved through the city.
But away from that, there’s a different message. Michael Dawson and Jamie Clemmett, once part of that rivalry, now reflect on how things were and where it can lead. Both have moved on, and both agree: one Saturday afternoon of trouble simply isn’t worth it. The real risk of arrest and prosecution, and the consequences, far outweigh the moment. They’d urge any younger lads to think twice before getting involved.
It’s a reminder that while rivalry is part of football, it doesn’t have to spill over. There’s always another way and sometimes the strongest statement is choosing not to let it go that far.
