A new defibrillator has been installed at the Clifton Inn in Plymouth after a community grant from councillor Steve Ricketts.
Landlord Dave Cornish knows personally how important heart health can be after undergoing corrective open heart surgery three years ago. He said several customers at the pub also have heart conditions.
The Clifton Inn now has one of the most up to date defibrillators available, providing potentially life saving equipment for people at the pub and in the surrounding community.
In an emergency, anyone in the area should call 999. The ambulance service can direct callers to the nearest available defibrillator and provide an access code where required.
The equipment analyses a person’s heart rhythm and will only deliver a shock when it detects one is needed.
Cllr Steve Ricketts, who provided a community grant for the defibrillator, said: “Really happy to help my favourite pub and great to use a community grant for something so important and life saving in the heart of the community.”
Dave finished with a joke about the pub’s prices increasing, saying: “When the customers find out it may come In handy”
