Motorists in Plymouth are facing diesel prices of more than £2 a litre, adding further pressure to household budgets as the cost of filling up continues to bite.
A Plymouth Post check of four filling stations around the city found diesel ranging from 197.9p to 201.9p a litre, while unleaded ranged from 172.9p to 174.9p.
The highest diesel price photographed was at the Esso filling station on Embankment Road, where it was 201.9p a litre. Unleaded was 174.9p.
At the Esso garage on Outland Road, diesel was only just below the £2 mark at 199.9p a litre, while unleaded was also 174.9p.
The supermarket forecourts visited were slightly cheaper.
At Morrisons in Plymstock, diesel was 198.9p a litre, with unleaded at 172.9p.
At Sainsbury’s at Marsh Mills, diesel was 197.9p a litre and unleaded was 173.9p.
Of the four forecourts checked by Plymouth Post, the most expensive diesel was therefore at Esso on Embankment Road at 201.9p a litre, while the cheapest was Sainsbury’s at Marsh Mills at 197.9p.
For unleaded, the highest price was 174.9p at both Esso on Embankment Road and Esso on Outland Road. The cheapest was Morrisons in Plymstock at 172.9p a litre.
The figures demonstrate just how expensive an everyday necessity has become for people who rely on their cars for work, school runs, shopping and other journeys.
For businesses running vans and other diesel vehicles, higher fuel prices can also increase running and delivery costs, potentially adding further pressure to the cost of goods and services.
