If you’ve spotted the Beryl Cook sculptures appearing in Plymouth, you’ll know just how much attention they’ve been getting.
The pieces capture the humour and character that made Beryl Cook’s work so distinctive, bringing her figures into three dimensions in a way that feels instantly recognisable.
Behind those sculptures is Helen Bishop, who works at TR2 and has been responsible for creating them.
Bringing Beryl Cook’s Characters to Life
Beryl Cook’s artwork is known for its bold, expressive figures, full of personality and movement. Translating that into sculpture takes a careful eye and a steady hand.
Helen has worked to capture that same energy in physical form, turning Cook’s characters into sculptures that reflect the style and feel of the original illustrations.
The result is something that sits comfortably alongside Cook’s work, while giving it a new dimension for people to experience up close.
Made at TR2
The sculptures have been created through TR2, where Helen Bishop works as part of the team.
It’s here that the pieces have been developed and brought to life, from early stages through to the finished sculptures now being seen in Plymouth.
So, with these Beryl Cook sculptures already making their mark across the city… the question is, will there be more to come?
You’ll have to watch this space.
