Solar Eclipse from Plymouth Hoe

12 August 2026

Plymouth Hoe was packed this evening as thousands of people gathered to witness the solar eclipse in glorious summer sunshine

Families, friends and visitors spread out across the grass, while the nearby funfair added to the atmosphere, creating a real sense of celebration. One striking view saw the eclipse hanging beside Smeaton’s Tower, with a lone figure silhouetted at the top of the historic lighthouse. It was a special moment that brought people together, with many simply stopping to look up and enjoy an event that won’t soon be forgotten.
